  1. The reason I chose Running Loose was because when I was reading the reviews on it, it seemed the most enjoyable. This book is about high school students that face challenges and have to overcome them. So far, I have really liked reading this book. Every time I read it; I don't want to set the book down. There are some moments when I make connections to my real life, being a high school student.

  3. I chose Running loose, Though this book was my third choice i feel as if his book is right for me. I really enjoy the way he tells the story. At first i though that this was stupid because of the cover, but i quickly realized that i shouldn't judge a book by its cover. As of right now its ok, I don't know if the book will change at all but if it did I'm sure it would be a good change. Because I'm not the most athletic person its hard to connect to a book about a sport.

  4. I chose Chinese Handcuffs because it seemed interesting. The main character Dillion, his brother killed himself in front of him and I thought it would be a good book to read about. I kind of related to it because Dillion is going through a lot of pain just like I was when my mom passed away. I'm not that far in the book, but I am finding it very interesting like when Dillion and Preston kill their neighbors cat and then burry it because the cat was mean to their dog.

I am actually pretty glad that they wanted me in their group with that book because the more that I read the book the more I actually enjoy it. In the beginning of the book, it was kind of confusing but the more you read the more it all makes sense and pieces together. There are some spots in the book that I have made some connections with the characters Eric and Sarah. They are outcasts and so am I so I can kind of relate to them with that.

  18. I decided to read Chinese Handcuffs because of the passage on the back cover. The book covers sensitive topics such as suicide. So far, I am enjoying the book and how Chris Crutcher uses letters from the main character addressed to his dead brother to express how Preston is feeling. However, in the first chapter there are a lot of names addressed and I found myself rereading portions to keep the characters in order. 23. I am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I chose this book as one of my top three because none of the others related to me, I wanted a book I could imagine and build connections off of. This book made it very easy to make connections with the main characters, Eric and Sarah. Also like having books that relate to me being in high school. I have also built big meaningful connections with Eric and Sarah. Me too I was so confused who half the characters when they came in. And what they are to Eric and Sarah. But I kept reading and trying to keep track of the order. And i understood after i kept reading also.

I am happy with my choice so far, because it has been very eventful and their are not many parts where I am bored. A lot of the books I've read in my free time relate to trauma and abuse, so that also grabbed my attention so I'm glad I could fit the same themes and maybe learn about sports here and there. The title also interested me, it seems like a peculiar title to choose for this book. Maybe they (the characters) go into prison or find themselves in a situation were they need to work together? well I guess I've got to read and find out!

There have been a few sexual comments made by certain characters in the book but as far as I am in the book, no one has said anything significantly explicit that would be worth banning this book over. Something that surprised me was the racism that appeared in the first few chapters of the book. While I was doing my research on what this book was about, I didn't come across any mentions of racism. The whole book follows the life of the main character, Louie, as his life goes downhill. It's not entirely relatable because I am not a football fan but I am starting to get acquainted with the football genre and even starting to understand why people like it.

  35. I got Stotan and it was my first pick. I chose Stotan as my first pick because it was about a guy in a winter sport in high school. I feel like I relate to him because I used to wrestle and I'm a guy in high school. So far I like the book and am glad I picked it because it has been very interesting and relatable to my life.

  36. I chose Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes because it seemed interesting and seemed like the most enjoyable one. I am happy with my choice of this book but I do get confused at some parts. My initial thought would be that the book is good with a lot happening so you are never reading anything boring. The book is enjoyable and keeps me thinking about the book all the time.

    1. I agree there is a lot going on in the story, which makes the book more, enjoyable. I like how the book switches between the characters' lives and history, that's one of the main reasons, why this book keeps me attached

  37. I had Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes as my second pick. When reading the reviews this book stood out to me, but it also confused me at the start of the book. I got confused with all the names of the character names. The first couple pages of the book were confusing because it talked about Eric swimming and then how Sarah was in the hospital. Once I got more pages into the book it all started making sense and I am glad that I got this book to read.

  38. I got Chinese handcuffs because it was my third choice. so far, the book is interesting and confusing. i can somewhat relate to the trauma part and also the sports. Chris Crutcher has a fun and exciting way of telling a story.

  39. I choose "Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes", because I felt that it would be interesting, from the title and summary of the book. So far, I am happy with my choice, the book is very interesting, and has a lot of mysteries behind it that I would like to figure out. My thoughts on the book are very good at the moment, it's keeping me in this interested state, from the back stories of the characters and the meaning behind certain things, the book is keeping me intrigued to continue reading. Connections about this book that i made, is about Sarah and how she wouldn't respond to anyone unless, you called her full name, and she is known for her burns that she has gotten as a child. I think that her name has something to do with the history of her burns.

  41. I was torn between Stotan and Running loose at the beginning when trying to decide which book to read. I ultimately chose Stotan because the brief description of the Stotan Week really caught my attention and was interested to read more about it. So far I am happy with my decision while just diving into the book

  44. The reason I was interested in reading the book Chinese Handcuffs was because I wanted to see how the characters would cope with their past traumatic experiences and how it will bring them closer together. So far, the book is very enjoyable, and I like the concept of the main character Dillon writing letters to his late brother Preston. I like how the book shows that even a schools most popular successful athlete may not have a picture-perfect life at home. It shows us that you never know what someone else is going through, and their life at school can be very different than their personal life.
