The endings of Chinese Handcuffs, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Running Loose, and Stotan! leave the reader with some unanswered questions. Chris Crutcher assumes the reader knows the ending, but he doesn't come out and say it. You take control and write the overview of one more chapter to these books. If there was one last chapter, what would it be about. How would you tie up loose ends, if you were the author?
If I had to make one more chapter in the book Stotan it would be about walker tell his girlfriend that he doesn't have feelings for her anymore. It ends with him saying something about how he was going to talk to his girlfriend but never says anything about it. If it were me I'd definitely add more about just their whole friend groups situations and more about Walker and Elaine.

DeleteI would agree that this should be one of the ways the book needs to be wrapped up. I think that this chapter need to include what happens between Elaine and the student teacher Mr. Wilson.

DeleteIf I could make one more chapter in Chinese Handcuffs, I would revolve the chapter around Dillon's friendship with Jen and Dillons friendship with Stacy. Right now, the book ends off with Jen and Dillon ending on a very sour note. Jen is mad at Dillon for going behind her back to help trap her stepdad. She has been raped several times by her stepfather and Dillon records a video that he uses for black mail to force the stepfather out of town. Understandably Jen feels betrayed by her friend and stops communicating with Dillon, until one day on the bus where she asks for the DVD's. I would make the following chapter about the status of their friendship today. I would include whether or not if Jen has forgiven Dillon for his actions and how her life is now with the absence of her stepdad. I would also tell readers if Dillon and his father are involved in Stacy's child's life and if her and Dillon were ever able to continue the friendship they once had. An idea I have for how the chapter would be set up is by first having it take place several years into the future. This could possibly be at the end of their college careers or a couple years after. the characters could cross paths one day and hopefully rekindle their friendships. The reason I would have it take place in the future is because it gives the characters more time to grow and heal from what they experienced during high school. We could also see what their lives would be like and if their traumas carried into their adult lives.
ReplyDeleteIf Chris did write a chapter like you described do you think that Jens family would continue being abused from other men like TB or do you think jen would have moved on, Because if the mom let jens bio dad, another random guy and TB hurt them. and the mom continued to stay with the guy or got mad at jen for telling her about her bio dad abusing her. Than would the mom ever apologize to jen and never let it happen again?
DeleteI agree that the relationships should be answered. I am curious of everyone's relationships like Jen and Dillon, Jen and her mom, and I would like to know everyone's endings.
DeleteI agree, especially his friendship with Stacey. I feel like Dillon and Stacey's friendship is very underrated and what they described in the book between them seemed like a good friendship.
DeleteIf I wrote the last chapter of Stotan! I would talk about the situation with Jeff (does he get better, worse, or stay the same?) I would also talk about Walker finally breaking up Devnee. The book ends with, "Right now I've got to get dressed and go pick up Devnee. Gotta set her straight." so if there was another chapter I think it would have to start off with that conversation. Throughout the story Chris Crutcher mentions a little bit about college for each character, but nothing is really ever confirmed. In the final chapter, I would probably end it with mentioning what happens after they are done swimming and where each of the main characters decide to go to college. I think ending like this would make the story make sense and tie up those loose ends.

DeleteFor the chapter about Jeff, I think it would provide some clarity if the author would better explain what exactly Jeff has.

DeleteIf i could make one more chapter in Running Loose it would be about Louie going back to the school and breaking Beckys memorial again. At the end of the book Louie explains why he broke it and why he was about to do it again. The principle put his name on the memorial and Louie didn't like the idea of that so he broke it with a sledge hammer, and so the principal got a new memorial. Then in the last sentence of the book he said he was going to get the sledge hammer and do it again. The last chapter would just be about how he did it and the reactions from everybody.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with most of this i just think he would have to pay some sort of consequence for doing this again. Wouldn't have to be a horrible one, but it should be something, even though it's what he wants to do.

DeleteIf I were Christopher Crucher-spher. I would spend more time writing the ending in general i feell lik after chapter 11 It seemed like he just wanted to trauma dump as much as he can to make the story interesting there was so manty unsessery detailes like statcy telling the whole school that she had persons child. I thought it was weird that they brought up the "solution" For TB is tto kill him and had dillion talk to someone justifying the murder for tb and to rescue the baby.. over all I feel like jens story did not have a proper ending nor did dillion. I thought it was weird Chris put that dillion got a prosthetic tooth and said that would be the last time he would have talked to Preston on the letter. I guess it was to make the reader think dillion killed tb? Other than that, I don’t understand why he says this. I believe over all dillions had a good story line but there were some strange things that happened dillions decision about Stacy and Jen, and the whole sex stuff did not really fit in the story because he did not get a love interest at all. He also did not reunite his family nor talk to his mother or sister it seemed like There was no resolution but having him help Jen. I feel like Jen's story was too shocking and her person was not really thought out she seemed like a two-dimensional character only used for plot. If she never would miss out on a game and continue to play after an injury than, why would she think of killing herself in the middle if the game? And why did she when she did not get her way hurt dillion. Like I don't think how I viewed Jennifer is that I did not think she would hurt anyone I don't understand how that whole thing happened I think he tried to tie it all up but in the end Chris just lacked.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the story line is a little weird. I definitely would not see Jennifer hurting anyone either because she was hurt too so she knew how it felt. I also think after chapter ten it got boring again. I feel like he was adding random information that didn't go well with the rest of the book.
Deleteyeah, I agree the sex stuff really didn't need to be there and the fact that he almost never talked about his mother or sister is jarring, I mean I forgot he had a sister for the longest time.

DeleteIf there was one more chapter, it would be about Louie going to smash Becky's memorial plaque because he hates what the principle put on it. If I was the author, I would have it, so Louie gets caught by the principle right after he gets it out of the cement. Then the principle would shoot Louie but not kill him. It would just put Louie in the hospital for a couple weeks so, then he could learn his lesson about having consequences for his actions.

DeleteI agree with how you are writing the next chapter. I feel as if it dumb of Jasper to put his name on the plaque in the first place.
DeleteIf the story ended that way I feel like having consequences for his own bad choices would make a great lesson for Louie to learn. But honestly, I think him getting away with destroying the plaque is better because Jasper did not have any relation to Becky so signing his name is disrespectful.
Deleteif I were to write one more chapter to STOTAN! then I would use that chapter to wrap up some of the not yet concluded parts of the book. the first thing that i would wrap up is whether or not walker would still break up with devnee even though elaine said the two of them wouldn't work in a relationship. i would also like to wrap up all the stuff that happened with jeff. other than those two things the rest of main plot of the book was concluded.
ReplyDeletethere is also a relationship in my book Chinese handcuffs we have the main characters Jennifer and Dillon they kind of like each other and its pretty obvious but it really never told us if they really got together or not because they went through a lot together and i would be surprised I wish my book went into more detail.

DeleteIf I were to write another chapter of the book it would be about Louie smashing the plaque and him coming forward about smashing it. He would tell everyone why he did it and what would be a good idea to put on it instead of what was originally on it. The plaque would get changed and Louie would be able to interact with the track team.

DeleteIf I were to write one more chapter to Stotan. One of the the loose ends I would wrap up is Jeff. First I would explain what he really has because the way Chris Crutcher just says that he has some sort of blood disease. Then I would write If Jeff's condition gets better or worse and if he dies from the disease.

Deleteif I wrote another chapter on Chinese handcuffs, I would write about what happened to TB after he got arrested for sexually assaulting Jen. Because at the end of the book Kris Crutcher came out of nowhere and said TB got arrested. I would also talk about Jennifer and Dillion and say that they started dating after they arrested TB. Last i would write about the relationship with Jennifer and her sister relationship with her mom after she dated TB.

DeleteIf I could add one more chapter to Chinese Handcuffs, I would talk about life after TB leaves, and what happens. The book does talk about it, but only hits the main points and doesn't talk about how they moved on after her step father left them. It would be nice to know how everyone goes back to normal and what ends up happening to TB.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Jens story had an ending but not one that wrapped everything up, Chris wrote that dillion won an iron man but never told us if jen got any awards for her basketball or like you said what happened to her, mom and sister besides putting the baby up for adoption.

DeleteIf i could make another chapter for Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes i would make it end with more drama involving Sarah and filling in the blanks. I would discuss in further detail Sarahs experience being adopted by Ms. Lemry and how she feels about all of it. I would also like to make it so Sarah and Moby get into a deeper stronger relationship as more than just friends. It could have had a lot more detail about the future and how they graduate and what there experience is like, i feel like as well.

I understand what you mean by adding more drama because like there is so many relationship's in the book that we just unsure about not really knowing the final connection on how they really feel. Just like filling in the blanks what you said. Yes that is another thing i would add is further about Sarah staying at Ms. Lemrys and her staying with her. I would answer if she's really staying with her forever. And i think it would be good for her to be adopted by Ms. Lemry and hopefully she will feel happy and safe staying there i think so. Yes i would also agree i think i would put sarah and moby into a stronger deeper connection also i can definalty see it. Yes just like what they do after they graduate.

There were problems with Jen and Dillon's relationship that wasn't figured out, Jennifer's mom was pregnant with T. B's baby, and if Jen stayed living with her mom after everything she was put through. I would like to know if Jen and Dillon made up and if they were friends again or even in a relationship. I would also like to know what happened with Jen's mom. Did she move on to another guy? Another thing I'm curious about is if Jen stayed living with her mom or if she left since she had the chance to. I am overall curious on the ending of everyone else and not just T. B's ending.

Or if he turned around and got better. Then did he swim again? Or join the Military again? Or decide to go to college and get a degree in something and find a job. These are the things I would add if I was allowed to make one last chapter to this book.

DeleteIf i could add one or more chapter to Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. After the ending the next scene i would add is i would talk about what is going to happen to curver which is Eric's mom's boyfriend.. After the interview if what is his consequence's going to be for breaking and entering into sarah's dads house because he did plead guilty of the breaking in and entering but everything was just standing up for himself. But add the end of chapter Eric says Use my college money to get him a lawyer, he's got all the respect I have. So if i could end more i would say that curver gets a good lawyer and he gets innocent. And they become one small happy family. Also i would talk about Sarah some more and say that she is glad that her father is in jail and she finally gets the parental figure she really needed. Who is Lemry who is the teacher who has been letting Sarah stay with her. I would put that Sarah stays at her house. And they are all safe. I would Eric and sarah and all of the other friends are all good friends. And maybe Eric and Sarah travel together when they older without the worry of her father bothering anyone.

I also agree that Sarah and Eric will do something together since her father is out of the picture, mother is a runaway, so now she has Lemry to take care of her. What do you think will happen to Dale Thorton or Mark Brittian?
DeleteIf I were to write another chapter of Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I would have Sarah living with Lemry. Chris Crutcher does not really explain exactly what Sarah is planning for the rest of her life since her mother still doesn't want her and her father is now in jail. Since Sarah really has no place to live that is why I would choose for Sarah to live with Lemry since Lemry cares for Sarah already and is seeming like a parental figure for Sarah. Sarah actually trust Lemry and she never trusts anyone. Also, Eric and Jody (together) would be mentioned but if not mentioned then Eric and Sarahh would be together. I feel like they would be a good couple. Lastly to wrap everything off, I would completely end it with Eric's shoulder healed and swimming one last time.

Then Carver and Eric's mom would get married considering what he did for Eric and her when they aren't even married yet.
DeleteYes i agree 100% with what you would add it fills in all of the blanks and missing answers we have about the book.I think that Sarah would be best to stay with Ms. Lemry and maybe even get adopted by her.I think there she would feel safe and happy. Until she graduates then i feel like Sarah and Moby would go on like trips together. I personally feel like i think Mody and Sarah would be a good couple i would put them together not moby and Judy something would happen and they would just be friends. DeleteIf I where Chris Crutcher and had to write another chapter for Chinese Handcuffs it would focus on Jenifer and Dillon in the future. It would go over how Jenifer is getting over the trauma she went through all of her life and either how her and Dillon are dating or how they are getting through things slowly. The chapter would also go over how T.B.`s trial went after he got arrested in Florida. I would also like to know if Dillon`s family is starting to talk again and how things are on that aspect.

DeleteI'm reading running loose and the book ended with Louie grabbing the sledgehammer after jasper put another plaque up for Becky's death. If I were the author, I would end the book with one last chapter. that last chapter would consist of Louie breaking out the plaque and throwing it in the stream below the bridge Becky died. After he does that, he would quietly watch the sunset while thinking about all the good times he had with Becky.

DeleteAnother chapter for Chinese Handcuffs would have to be about Jennifer's mom because after her mom finds out the accusations Jennifer made about her stepdad was true it and the baby goes up for adoption it never really tells you if Jennifer is given forgiveness from the mom for having Jennifer go through that and the mom not believing it so i want to know if the mom learned from not believing her daughter and not putting her kids first and gave Jennifer the forgiveness she deserves

I would show someone catching him and him getting in trouble so he can learn that you cant do that. Louie would also get consequences for his actions. Louie would also have to apologize to Becky's parents for his actions and help make a new one for Becky.

ReplyDeleteIf I were to add another chapter to the book Running Loose, it would be about when Becky and the plaque that was hung on the tree in the memory of her. The plaque being rebuilt after Louie destroyed it and hated the fact that Jasper had his name on it because he thought of it. This next chapter would just be about how Louie thinking of his own idea and do it in the way he felt was right.

DeleteIf I were to add another chapter of Chinese Handcuffs, I would want to tell about how Jen, Stacy and Dillon are doing in 5 years, as well as punishment for T.B. I would like Jen to be doing well and in therapy as well as Stacy chasing her dreams and raising her kid as well. I would hope for Dillon to be pursuing some career in college in some kind of sports medical field. For T.B though, I wish him to be suffering in prison and have to experience what he induced on Jen for years.
ReplyDeleteI didn't read Chinese handcuff's but whatever T.B. did, I'm sure it deserves prison and more. Adding a good ending for the victims would probably make this book less traumatizing. I did hear that the characters go through a lot in this book. Did you enjoy the book overall and was it hard to read?

DeleteIn running Loose, Louie has graduated high school and there was a plaque that principal Jasper had put in memory of Becky but Louie destroyed it. Jasper put up another one and the end of the book suggests that Louie will also destroy the new one. I really like this ending because it shows how Louie still cares about Becky and he has learned a lot from her death. But if I were Chris Crutcher, I would end the book by having Louie be older and already married and possibly with children, and him and his family would all go visit Becky's grave. Despite what they had, Louie will most likely move on, and as he said himself "I was sort of able to what Becky said we should both do if we ever broke up: put it in a box and remember it as one of the nice things that happened."

DeleteIf I were to write another chapter to end Stotan! I would add a lot more closure. I hate how Chris Crutcher left the ending completely open for interpretation. First, I would say whether Jeff lives or dies and if he lives then how long he lives and if he dies then when and how does everyone take it. I would also like to get closure from Walker and Devnee because it is something that I have been reading about throughout the entire book and I would like to know how it ends. I would have added more closer for all other characters because I think Chris Crutcher did a horrible job with it.

I'm not happy where Chris Critcher has left off with TB, and i want to know more. so, the last chapter would be about how TB got away even though they found him in Florda but how did he get there? and did he hurt any more families on the way there? how long will TB be in jail for? i would also want to know if Jen and Dillion ever got back together of if she couldn't handle him see the video.

I would want it to take place after highschool and after the dust has settles between Jen and Dillon. When I imagine the future of this book, I imagine Stacy and Jen going from friends to lovers and raising the baby together. Dillon and Jen would be best friends again, along with Stacy. Jen and Dillon would also be in therapy, learning to overcome their past traumas.
ReplyDeleteIf, I had to create one last chapter for Staying fat for Sarah Brynes, I would definitely make the chapter about how Sarah adapted, with being adopted by the Lemry's, since she was the main piece of the story. I would talk about how Sarah's life will plan out and the growth she will have, now knowing that she is in a safe environment, seeing how her and Ms.Lemry's trust, and bond grows, and what role Mr.Lemry will play in her life, whether or not she will look at him as a father figure or not. I would also go into what is happening with Carver, not too much into it, but just knowing enough to make sure he is okay, and well. I would finish off talking about how every character life has been, since the changes, like what career they would pursue in and what they were doing for college.
ReplyDeleteI like what you are thinking for the next chapter in the book Malik. I would also like to know more about Carver. I've still wondered as to why Carver didn't tell Eric's mom that he is a veteran and served 2 tours. So I would like to know more about him and his past. Do you think that Sarah will live and stay with Lemry or will she eventually leave like she wanted to when Eric was in the hospital. I think it would also be kind of funny if Sarah and Eric made on last one and added her father Virgil to Crispy Pork Rinds.

DeleteIf i had to add one last chapter into the book i would say something about jeff because Chris crutcher tells us that he goes into the hospital because he has cancer and doesn't want anyone to see him and when he does come home he is bald and thin. I wish chris crutcher would say if he died or if he lived or just know what happened to him.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to write one more chapter it would probably be how it all went into T.B getting arrested because it just came out of normal. It would lead up to T.B arresting and everything that went on at the court house. I also feel like adding more about Jen forgiving Dillon and how they went back to normal after what he did behind her back. I wish Chris Crutcher wouldn't have rushed so much information at the end of the book. It would've made more sense it the ending was spread out and another chapter about T.B's arresting.
ReplyDeleteIf Running Loose had one more chapter it would not have been that good beacuse twards the end of the book it was kind of getting boring. Louie was starting to go crazy in my opinion he just couldnt think of anything positive and he was trying to drag everyone down in his life and detroyed the statue so i think he wouldnt do anything good if there was more chapters. if i could change it i would have not had becky die and louie still be happy.
ReplyDeleteIf i had to write one more chapter for Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I would talk about what happens to carver, if he stays in jail or gets out. I would also tell more about what happens to Sarah Byrnes and Lemry, does Sarah move in? does Sarah end up running away for good?

DeleteIf I had to make one more chapter in Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes, I would add how life is going with Sarah with her new family. I would also add what happened to Sarah's dad.
ReplyDeleteif i were to make another chapter in Running Loose, it would be about Becky's plaque and about why Louie smashed it and threw it into the river where Becky had died. He would tell everyone why he did it and what would be a good idea to put on it instead of what was originally on it. The plaque would get changed and Louie would be able to interact with the track team.
ReplyDeletefor the final chapter of Chinese handcuffs, I would go towards showing the healing of our main characters, like Dillon reconnecting with his mother and sister, Jenifer going on to therapy, actually showing her toppling her psychotic stepfather, and either finding love or gaining some kind of inner peace. at the end I would make it, so we actually see the evil stepfather go to jail and suffer for what he did.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to make a final chapter of Running Loose, I would aim for showing how Louie goes back and smashes the second plaque made for Becky. He would then go to throw it in the river under the bridge where Becky had passed. After giving his opinion and owning up to breaking the plaque, they would make a new plaque, one that Louie is okay with.
