  2. The reason I wanted to read I am Malala, is because I have heard of the story a few times before. I support her beliefs and want to know more about her struggles and experiences. Now that I have gotten the chance to read a little further, I would say I like the book, but it can be a little slow and confusing at times. It's hard to tell what parts are going to be most important later in the book and also difficult to remember the names of the characters. The traditions and the form of language used is far different from what I am used to. Malala and her father believe in education for women and having a school with the proper resources for everyone. Malala is a very intelligent young girl who performs very well academically and not afraid to speak up for herself and express her thoughts, even though some believe she is too much of a goody two shoes. Although I feel the book is very slow at times I am excited to learn more about her journey and story that goes along with it.

    1. I feel like the story goes back and forth a lot between Malala's childhood experiences and with the politics. I would say the history and politics is what really makes the story slow and confusing. But I find that Malala's side of the story is the best part and I am Also exited to know more about her.

    3. Yes i very much agree with you both the book is good but it can be very slow and confusing especially with the politics she tells us all of these names about politics about what happened. I don't like how it bounces between Malalas childhood experiences and everything that happened in the past. I am reading I am Malala and also am very excited to learn more about her journey and what all she will do next. I like learning about her story and where and how she got where she is today.

  7. what really got me interested in this book was that it is set in a place I don't really know much about, this along with the fact that it is about a big problem that is still happening today. after reading some chapters in it had a really understandable beginning, happy life ripped apart due to war, flinging him around the land fleeing the wars wherever he could, it also started with refuges arriving and foreshadowing the dangers yet to come.

  11. I am reading the book night, and the reason I was attracted to this book is because it is about the holocaust, and I have read a lot of books about WW2 and the holocaust, so I thought it would be the right fit for me. So far, it has hooked me. The book is about Elie's experience with the holocaust, and he doesn't really know how to handle it, although he is doing a good job so far. The first few pages are slow but as the German army slowly takes control over Elie's village, it gets more intense. I was shocked at how fast the book moved; within a dozen pages the book was already extremely intense.

  13. I am reading "A long way gone" what made me what to read this book was i did not know about the war that was taking these kids and turning them into killers. It was something horrific and new and i wanted to give it a shot. The first chapter set up the atmosphere of the book and taught basic things that was needed to read the book and show the calm before the storm. The van scene with the baby was horrible and it just keeps getting worse this book definitely got me hooked!

She saw that her mom had hung herself and she doesn't come out of her room then she gets married to a guy named Rasheed and they move to Rasheed's home in Kabul. 15. The book I am reading is a Long Way Gone. Broadbent actually got me interested by explaining how the book is chaotic and how this boy has to experience so much at a young age. The main focus in my book is survival. The main character is doing a really good job because of what he has learned prior to the war arrived in his life. This book already has me hooked because within the first chapter there is a lot of action. The book moves really fast and sometimes skips up to a month at a time. I think that A Long Way Gone will be one of the best books that i read ever, because of how it has gone so far.

  16. I am reading the book A Long Way Gone, and I was attracted to it because it is about a 12-year-old boy that is surrounded by war. I thought this sounded interesting to read because the main character, Ishmael Beah tells the story in his point of view and gives an excellent description of what was really going on around him. The primary focus of this story right now is finding a way to survive the attacks by the rebels. Ishmael and his friends are doing pretty good right now escaping the villages that the rebels attack. After reading the first few chapters, I enjoy reading this book because it is full of action and crazy experiences that the author has gone through. The book started out a little slow, but now the story is moving really fast as I continue to read it. I was shocked by all the detail the author gives about the wars and his experiences.

  17. I picked I am Malala because I have been seeing this book for several years now and I decided this was the perfect opportunity to finally read it. I am liking it a lot so far, I am more invested in Malala's story rather than the politics and history. I feel like at this point in the book, things are still building up and the main problem is how women have less rights in Pakistan than men, I don't feel like the story is close to talking about what happened when Malala got shot. A character that I feel has shaped a big part of Malala's life is her father, Ziauddin. I like him a lot so far because he's different from a lot of the men in Pakistan and he actively fights for education for girls.

  18. I am reading I am Malala. I was gone the day that we choose the books we wanted to read but i feel like if i was there i would put this book in like my 2nd choice. The reasoning is that her story seems interesting to learn about and i think its cool that she is writing it herself. I just think its cool to learn about her village in the pashtun culture. First they lived in Mingora then after they live in Gulkada which means house of flowers but used to be called Butkara or place of the Buddhist statues. So overall its cool learning all about where she was raised, how she became the kind of person she is today. The main Character of this book is Malala. But she's just mainly telling stories about what happened. My overall thoughts of the book is that i like it for the most part just can be very confusing with all of the names she tells us about like people that's not in the village. It was a slow start but once i got to chapter 3 it was better but it was off and on.

  20. the thing that attracted me to the book night sounded very interesting and talked about how his family and him got taken away from their homes because they were Jews. this book mainly focuses on what it was like at the concentration camps as a Jew. the way that Elie and his family were preparing was getting bags ready with clothes, food and other valuable items. at first the book was very slow but now its started talking about the solider coming into to town loading the jews up and taking them away.

  24. A Long Way Gone was not my first choice and it didn't catch my attention when we read a part of each one. The primary focus in the novel is Ishmael's survival through war and so far, he has survived three years going from village to village looking for food. Ishmael has gone through many challenges, but he hopes to see his family again and he seems to be catching up to them. I have read the first ten chapters so there has been a lot of information given. I was very confused at the beginning because he was with a group of five other boys and the names are hard to remember because so many things happen. It's also confusing because now he is with six different boys than before so that is more names to remember. My first impressions were that it was long and boring but now that I am farther into it, it is really interesting. The one thing I do not like is the number of things that happen in each chapter because it makes it confusing.

  27. I am currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. This book was my 3rd choice I believe. The reason I chose this one for my 3rd choice is because it sounded interesting but also confusing. Once I was starting to read it, it was clear to me that this book is very confusing and just very weird. A Thousand Splendid Suns is a very boring book especially in the beginning, then it picked up a little bit and that just went back to boring. This book is also very confusing. there are so many words that we have never heard of so you either have to take a guess as to what the word is with the context clues or just straight up google it. This book is split up into 4 parts. the first part was about a girl, her name is Mariam. The situation she is having to deal with right now is her husband that she was forced to marry. She is trying to please him, and she has had 7 miscarriages and with everyone he gets angrier and more upset with her. Part 2 is a lot more confusing than the first part. There was really no description as to who these people are and why they are in the book. Overall, this is a very confusing book.

I am reading Kite Runner I was interested in the book because I wanted to know what it was like to be friends on opposite sides, but I am not as interested in it anymore as it is very confusing. I find the main focus of the novel being the relationship between Hassan and Amir, they are doing everything they can to protect one another. 45. what attracted me to A Long Ways gone was the tragic life he is living and how he was reacting to it, i think that its crazy that people can live in those kind of enviorments. It jumps rifght into the bloody scenes and describes everything around him that is happening i thhink he handled his situation very well. This book is describing a differnet lifestyle than anything we know around here.

  46. Hunter Fosdal I was attracted to the book kite runner because by the way it puts the characters in the way some books do not as a way of perspectives of rich and poor and their different culture and religion and the way of nobles and workers act.
